Divorcing Couple Ordered to Share Social Networking Passwords

A judge in Connecticut has shocked the legal community with a recent demand from the court room.

Last week the Superior Court judge ordered both a husband and wife to give the passwords to their social networking and dating websites to each other's lawyers. This is intended to further the discovery process as it applies to the child custody portion of the divorce settlement. However, these passwords will not be exchanged between the husband and wife, preventing them from viewing each other's websites.

This move came after the judge learned that the wife had asked a friend to change some information on her social site and delete messages from her dating website. The opposing counsel ordered an injunction on both sites, preventing the woman from altering anything else during the divorce settlement case.

One attorney not associated with the case has spoken out, calling this court-authorized hacking. While it may not be condoned by all, it will certainly set a new precedent in this digital era we are living in.
