Man Attacks Wife during Divorce Hearing
The man who attacked his own wife during a divorce hearing is now being held without bond in Broward County.
According to court documents Catherine Scott, 23, went before another judge to state that her husband, 28-year-old Paul Henry Gonzalez Jr, had attacked her. The incident, which happened on April 15, left Scott with a fractured jaw, broken nose, a concussion and blackened eyes. Scott added that she is now fearful of Gonzalez; it is uncertain whether she will request a restraining order in the future.
Although apologetic, Dana Swickle, Gonzalez's attorney, informed the judge that the attack was a singular incident that had happened only under "highly emotional" circumstances. The judge ruled that Gonzelez will remain jailed to ensure Scott's safety. If he is found guilty of the charges against him, he could face as many as 15 years in prison.
