Domestic Violence Amongst Teenagers
Dating violence is not limited to adults, although it may be more reported than teen dating violence. Experts say, however, that in both circumstances, one partner wields his/her power over the other to intimidate, whether in a sexual, physical or emotional way.
This can be done in a variety of ways although it is most commonly accomplished with domestic violence. Experts also say the gender of the abuser is not limited to just males, despite public preconceptions of violence. Women can also be the abusers, making the crime no less painful or wrong for the victim.
Experts say that parents must watch out for signs of abuse in teenage relationships. For instance, teenagers who seem to have withdrawn from their family and circle of friends may be in the midst of an abusive relationship. Oftentimes the abuser will attempt to seclude the victim from his/her loved ones in order to maintain their power over them. Since young adults are new to the dating game, they may confuse actions of control and jealousy as love, when it is in fact just another facet of dating violence.
Regardless of age, domestic violence in a relationship should never remain unaddressed. If you or your loved one is a victim of domestic abuse, contact the Meyers Law Group to discuss your legal options, such as obtaining an
