Couple Ordered to Go Through Divorce Mediation

In some states judges will assign a couple to mediation in order to resolve difficult questions, rather than go through a lengthy trial. That is precisely what happened in a case involving a local husband and wife.

After hearing the couple argue over multiple items during their divorce settlement hearing, a Franklin Family Court judge ordered that the spouses participate in divorce mediation within the next month.

However, news sources say that the wife is not thrilled with the decision and doesn't want to go through mediation. Since her husband's schedule is going to become busier over the next few months during his candidacy for a political office, the wife would prefer to have the issue settled in court in front of a judge.

Despite the wife's hesitations, both parties will be expected to share financial information with a mediator in order to work out a divorce settlement before seeing the judge again.

Divorce mediation can present a couple with numerous advantages, such as amicable resolutions to their problems. If you'd like to learn more about divorce mediation in New York, contact the Meyers Law Group to receive information from a Long Island divorce lawyer.
