Football Coach in Pittsburg Charged with Domestic Violence
Mike Haywood, former University of Pittsburgh head football coach, was arraigned this week in St. Joseph County Court on domestic violence charges.
He entered a preliminary plea of not guilty that will become permanent in twenty days. Haywood is expected back in court on January 11 at 8 a.m. The judge overseeing his case will be Judge Miller; the former coach will be represented by attorney Andre Gammage of South Bend.
When the coach was arrested in South Bend on New Year's Eve, he was promptly arrested the next day by the Pittsburgh team. Sadly for Haywood, the coach had just been hired two weeks prior to being dismissed by the team. He had been the head coach at Miami of Ohio; Haywood has also held an assistant coach position and is a former player for Notre Dame.
