Singing Coach Subjected to Restraining Order

A restraining order has been taken out against a singing coach in Norwich that has been charged with sexually assaulting a student. John E. Harned, 33, has been charged with violating a restraining order and violation of conditions of release.

Harned was arrested by the Norwich police Juvenile Division in November with three counts of second-degree assault for a sexual relationship that he had had with a teenage girl under the age of 18. According to state statute a relationship between an adult and a minor under 18 is considered sexual assault.

Police were alerted to Harned's behavior by the victim's father after he contacted the teenage girl. In fact, he had been contacting the young girl since December. Police corroborated this story with two more witnesses that observed Harned contact the girl by online messaging and text messaging.
