Facebook Adds Domestic Partnership as a New Relationship Status

Facebook announced that it added two more ways for users to describe their romantic arrangements: "in a civil union" and " in a domestic partnership". These statuses were added on Thursday in an attempt to provide more inclusiveness for its gay members.

Although the company has not made any further comments on the change but a gay rights group has already given the company a thumbs-up for their efforts. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation president Jarrett Barrios made a statement last week, "By acknowledging the relationships of countless loving and committed same-sex couples in the U.S. and abroad, Facebook has set a new standard of inclusion for social media."

She added that GLAAD, as well as other gay-rights groups, had met with Facebook several times to get the change enacted. Users in the U.S., the United Kingdom, France, Australia and Canada can now use these two additional statuses on their profiles.
