2 Million People Divorced in 2009 in the U.S.
According to the National Council of Family Relations more than half of all marriages now end in divorce. In 2009 there were over 2 million divorces alone in the United States.
Another study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that first marriages have a 20 percent chance of ending within five years; after a decade the chances are 33 percent. The number of marriages a person has also increases the chance of divorce - third marriages alone are 73 percent likely to end.
Women are often hit harder than men by divorce as they enter new lives that often include single parenthood, the challenges of dating and having access to fewer financial resources. In fact, Marie Claire found that women reported a 45 percent decrease in the quality of their lives after divorce.
