Athlete Announces Divorce

An athlete announced this week that she will seek a divorce from her husband of four years. The skier, who won an Olympic gold medal, filed for divorce last week in Colorado. However, she announced that she intends to keep her married name but will not retain the services of her husband as a chief adviser. The move to keep her married name is likely due to the fact that her fame as an athlete is represented by her married name and not her given name.

Some speculate that after winning the Olympic gold medal, winning several other awards and hobnobbing with famous athletes led to a decline of interest in her marriage. Yet, neither she nor her husband is discussing the particulars of the divorce. Included in her public statement was the reassurance that she would continue to practice with the American skiing team in spite of her personal troubles.
