Police Accused of Failing to Enforce Restraining Order

A brutal murder has led a human rights' organization to blame the U.S. government for failing to enforce a restraining order against the man responsible for the death.

Tragedy struck on June 22, 1999 when a young woman called police in Colorado about the abduction of her three daughters. She stated that her estranged husband took the girls, aged 7,8 and 10 at the time, and disappeared with them overnight. However, she asserted that the police did nothing to help to her locate her ex-husband or the three girls.

The next morning, the husband drove to the police station and started shooting at officers. Although police retaliated by shooting the husband, it was too late for the three young girls as they were found murdered in the back of their father's pickup truck. As a result of this horrific crime, the commission is now claiming that the Colorado police violated international obligations by failing to protect the three girls.
