Women Return to Abusive Relationships for Financial Reasons

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 85% of women who leave a relationship where domestic violence is an issue will return to their abusive partners.  It is speculated that a large number of women returned to abusive relationships due to their inability to deal with their finances.  This is due to the fact that the abuser often has all of the economic means and also has complete control over family finances.

Additionally, research indicates that women's options are further limited as they may have at least one dependent child, lack employment outside of the home, lack cash or credit accounts or lack property that is solely theirs.

For these reasons, many women who are abused or victims of domestic violence will compromise their own security by returning to their partners instead of leaving the relationships.  Even when women choose to summon the courage and leave, they may return solely for financial purposes.
