Two States Involved in Child Custody Case

Two states are involved in a child custody battle over a 2-year-old girl right now. Stacey Doss, Vanessa's adoptive mother, has been fighting to have the case seen in Orance County. She is appealing the judge's decision to have the child custody case seen in Ohio. Until then the judge's will sit on a panel to see whether they should stay the case until a full appellate court can decide jurisdiction in this case.

This is not the beginning of their custody battle, however, as Doss failed to agree with the demands of the birth father, Benjamin Mills Jr., in September. The battle actually started in 2008 when Mills filed for custody right before the adoption was finalized in Ohio.

At this time Vanessa lives with her mother as a legal ruling has blocked her return to Mills for the time being. If the lower courts take Vanessa away from her, Doss has stated that she will go to Ohio's appellate courts to continue fighting for the child.
