Divorce Resources For Children

Children often need help too when their parents get divorced. Here is a resource you can turn kids onto, it's the PBS website called, It's My Life. The site was created by the U.S. based public broadcaster and it is an extremely kid friendly site. It offers children of all different ages information, games, discussion and advice about friends, family, the body, emotions and even money.

To visit the site you can go to www.pbskids.org/itsmylife  and click on divorce from the menu under "other topics." This section contains video clips from  kids who have had experience with divorce, an online poll, statistics, quizzes and articles written for children of parents who are getting a divorce.  A few articles are entitled, "Things will get Better," "Dealing with Feelings," and so on. These articles are written in an honest and straightforward manner so that kids can know that other children have experienced similar things and that they are not the alone in their feelings.

Another resource for pre-teens ages 9-12 is "Billie's World," a novel written by Kim Grossman Finkel. The story is about an eleven-year-old girl whose parents are going through a divorce. In addition to divorce, a number of issues are covered in the book, such as the subjects of boys, friends, self esteem, adults, and more.
