Woman Kidnaps Daughter during Custody Battle

Lisa Miller of Virginia has disappeared with her 8-year-old daughter, Isabella Miller-Jenkins. Miller and her daughter were scheduled to appear in court on January 1 to trade physical child custody of Isabella to Janet Jenkins, Miller's former partner who was awarded custody of the child last year. Isabella has now been listed as missing and it is believed by Jenkin's attorney that Miller took the girl and moved to El Salvador.

Lawyers for Miller are scheduled to appear in court to challenge the family court's decision to award Jenkins custody and argue that Miller should have retained custody of the child as the biological mother. The Vermont Supreme Court will hear Miller's lawyer's argument that Judge William Cohen erred when he awarded custody to Jenkins in November 2009.
