Scarlet Johannsen and Ryan Reynolds Initiate Divorce

Although they weren't expecting the news of their divorce to be kept quiet, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlet Johannsen have issued a statement saying that, "while privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."

According to "Us Weekly" Johanssen initiated the split and has already started apartment hunting. She is now in Jamaica relaxing with friends.

One of the primary reasons cited for the split is distance, the pair having to spend long periods of time away from one another while working. A source close to the actress says that she has been unhappy for a while due to the distance factor. Us also reports that Reynolds has reportedly been seeking out platonically to an ex "seeking comfort." Although this has not been confirmed rumors are swirling that it could be singer Alanis Morrisette.

The couple have been married since 2008 when they wed at a wilderness retreat in Canada. Despite their celebrity status the duo have tried to remain out of the public eye, preferring to lead a quieter life.
