Mayor in New York Convicted of Assault against Wife
A suburban mayor in New York was convicted of multiple charges in conjunction to his upcoming divorce. Mayor Adam Bradley, 49, of White Plains, was found guilty of attempted assault on his wife, criminal contempt, and other attacks, such as slamming her hand in a door and scalding her with hot tea.
Even though he could face up to a year in jail for his convictions, Bradley has stated that he will not resign from his position in which he had once been considered a rising Democratic star. He firmly states his innocence, saying "Of course, I am not going to step down."
Bradley and Fumiko had been married for seven years before deciding to file for divorce. The couple has two daughters together.
After the abuse started Fumiko was granted arestraining order against her husband. Bradley violated this order, however, when he visited to ask whether she should check into a mental hospital and to ask if she would recant her statements to the police.
